I am trying to download internet explorer 6 but the
instructions say to turn off third party download managers
to prevent interception from other sites. What/where is
the third party download manager? I looking in help and it
says it cannot find this item.
I am CONSTANTLY having troublewith my current Internet
Explorer (it continually says page cannot be displayed or
server cannot be found). I am totally computer illiterate.
Can anyone explain in plain English what's happening?
Thanks.

Rightclick the IE (Internet Explorer) icon and click
Properties. Under Home Page click "Use Blank" click
Apply and OK should resolve your problem.

You can't download Internet Explorer and install it on XP, it is already
installed and tightly integrated into the operating system. XP doesn't come
with any third party download managers, so if you didn't install one you
don't have one.
If your having connection problems, calling your isp might be your best bet.
Also scan for and remove spyware with these tools:
spybot -- http://www.safer-networking.org/
ad-aware -- http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

You can also try to repair IE:
You can reinstall IE using the following command line in the run dialog:

rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\Inf\ie.inf

The XP cd may be needed for a re-install of IE.

( watch the word wrap, there is a space between 132 and % )
