Need a quiet heatsink and fan...

This volcano 9 cooler I have sounds like a damn jet engine, can anyone
recommend a cheap heatsink (around $30) that isn't loud as hell for an
Athlon XP 2400+? (I plan to upgrade this processor later to around
3000+)

I'd avoid anything from Thermaltake if you want quiet. My "Silent"
PurePower 420W power supply is anything but. And my Thermaltake GF4
cooler was unbearably loud, despite being advertised as near-silent.

Anything from Zalman. Might cost more but its worth the silence, and
quality.

In the long run it will keep your sanity.

Well within tolerances even if overclocked as high as you can get it with
vcore at 1.85v.

I'd avoid anything from Thermaltake if you want quiet.

You don't know what you are talking about. This cooler is one of the
quietest coolers on the market at 21db. It's not the Volcano series that
puts out as much as 60db or more noise.

Completely agree. I have three of them. A Vantec Stealth 92mm fan is just
a smidgen quieter.
