I have one comp that I want to transfer some picture & music files from to
another comp. Can I just USB them together for a short transfer? XP pro 1 on
first comp to XP Home 2 on second comp. I just want to keep it simple for
this one transfer. Thanks

You can't connect computers via USB cable unless you buy a special cable
that either comes with software to install on both computers or one that has
a hardware device in the middle that has the software pre-installed.
Firewire would work if both computers have firewire capability and would
require no software.

If each computer has an Ethernet adapter, create a temporary network
by connecting them to each other using a crossover Ethernet cable. A
regular Ethernet cable won't work for a direct computer-to-computer
connection.

Another possibility is to use a USB flash drive to transfer files.
