I'd go with HJSplit [already mentioned].
Just to ask -- is there a possibility you can transfer to another PC by
using remote-network software, without having the drudgery of burning
to CD? If so, your PC may have network ability built-in. If not, and
you want something to transfer via serial cable / null modem cable [aka
LapLink cable] then have a look at freeware VPN/VNC software.
It's a very easy matter to do file migration/copying with any of the
above alternatives, without having to use shareware costly alternative
biggies like LapLink or PCAnywhere.
Yes, ZIP/RAR software will do disc-spanning, but the time to
backup/restore a video file will be time-consuming. Also, the
compression ratio is NOT GOOD for these types of files, meaning you
will spend a lot of time compressing, copying/restoring and the ZIP/RAR
files will not be much smaller than your original AVI.
Another thing to look at in your splitting software is that it has
customizable output size -- ie, that you can set it to a default
650-700 meg size for each CD, and save that option for future use.
