I need to control realtime PowerPoint presentations via Internet. Can it be
done? What hosting companies provide support?

Hi,

Depending on your PowerPoint version, there is a broadcast feature that runs
rather horribly. Alternatives are converting to html via Microsoft Producer
or convert to Flash? Microsoft options are here:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HA010348141033.aspx

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;826485

You could also try via Google dot com

Please tell us your PowerPoint version,
whether you are using vba,
whether your dog has fleas, or
anything else relevant.

Thanks for the reply.

We have PP 2003. The issue is can the presenter control real-time? Depending
on the audience, we need to present at different speeds.

You really need an application designed specifically for this kind of
program, then.

I highly recommend Communicast (recently merged with VCall)
http://www.vcall.com/vcall/index.asp Or check WebEx and LiveMeeting for
other options.

For that matter, you can do application sharing from MSNMessenger
(Actions/Application Sharing), but I wouldn't rely on that if you need
something professional.

Thanks Echo. The deal is these recipients are usually behind firewalls and
layers of security at hospitals and we've had problems even with WebEx --
also they are new prospects that we won't ask very much of re: downloading,
logging on, etc. So, if they could go to a web location and simply watch a
live presentation, slide and other media delivery time contingent on their
questions and such, that would solve our needs.

Hi, Mike --

I understand. We struggle with those things, too. But if you want real-time
controls, just going to the same web page isn't gonna do the trick.

That's one of the reasons I like Communicast. They really worked with us to
deal with (and in some cases, eliminate) firewall issues, and you can have
online support techs available to help people if you want. I just find them
a bazillion times more responsive than WebEx. Oh, and I just double-checked,
and it seems the name is not VCall -- no Communicast. But it's the same
people.

I think any kind of application sharing-type thing is going to have some of
these issues. That's just the nature of our internet these days. The trick
is to find an app you can troubleshoot -- or find one responsive enough to
help you and your users troubleshoot on the fly.
