NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display of America, Inc., on Monday announced its plans to launch an expansive 30-inch LCD display for the information display market, the comapny's largest ever.

The 30-inch NEC LCD3000 (29.5-inch viewable image size) bridges the gap between flat panels designed for the desktop and those intended for large presentation venues, the company said.

The display features a resolution of 1280 x 768 and a wide aspect ratio, the NEC LCD3000 renders precise text, images and video for clear viewing of applications such as presentations, charts, advertisements and pricing. The new LCD monitor features a brightness of 450 cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 350:1. Using NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display's Rapid Response technology, the NEC LCD3000 operates at 25ms to facilitate full-motion video, while virtually eliminating "ghosting" or "image trailing," the company claimed. The display is phosphor-less, eliminating the possibility of images being permanently burned into the screen when left on the display for long periods of time.
Interesting news, but I don't see who would want a screen that big. Certainly not for personal use, possibly someone like John Carmack could use one, or other professionals, but that's about it. Rumors are also circulating that Apple will introduce a 30" Cinema Display soon, which should be sweet as they're the best LCDs on the market. For reference, the Apple displays are made by Phillips.
