Looking for a 17" LCD flat panel.

Any thoughts on the NEC line in this size?

Also what is DVI and do I really need that?

I am running an NEC Multisync LCD1765 17" and love it. No ghosting
in any games I play

Bestbuy is where i got mine and they still have a $50 rebate on them
$549.99 before rebate and free shipping to boot

The only thing you need to be aware of is that unlike your typical LCD
this model has an acrylic cover on LCD panel and if you have monitor
positioned with light source behind you youll get its reflection in
monitor.

Go to this link and note the 2 different conection points. Left is
analog and righ one is for digital output for monitors capable of
doing digital. Your card may or may not have both types of output.

I'll let the more knowledgable people give you the dirt on major diff
between analog and digital but it is supposed to be better.

Question....

Is this model analog only? NO DVI port on it right?

If yes..... have you been OK with analog only?

Im actually thinking that cover might be nice to have.
Just so people do NOT touch the panel itself.

Do you find it nice to have? Or a hinderance?

Yes analog only and like i said no issues but i really dont know the
true benefits of digita.l I would have to do some research on net to
get info on true diff betwen them.

The acylic covering hasnt been a problem for me at all

Another Ive read abt the NEC monitors is that they have
a fast response time... faster than other brands in
this price range ( sub $500)

I dont think its even an issue myself If I werent pleased with the
analog quality i would go back to a CRT monitor in a minute.

only way to see if you as a user would note any diff in quality is to
do a side by side test.

NEC is awesome . . . thoroughly under-rated, even though it is highly rated!
Look for the LCD1760NX (BK). This is both analog and DVI. If you keep the
monitor long enough, you will need DVI. For now, you probably don't. But
as there are some dual analog/DVI monitors on the market that are no more
expensive than single format versions, there is no reason not to buy

One thing Im looking at NEC for is cause of the fast
response times...even in the lower end units.

The 1760v is pretty cheap....and has good response
times

My wife has that exact monitor, the black version. Picture quality is
awesome, and my nephew likes it for games. If I was buying one today
though, I'd want the DVI connector. -Dave

Yeah that's the only thing I didn't like abt the
1760v...... i.e. no DVI connector

However the Dell 17" LCD model is i same price range
and does have a DVI connector as well as analog
connector

I dont know what dell ar using but we recently had a bunch of CRT monitors
replaced with 20 inch DELL Plasma screens (due to burn in) they are awesome,
and very quick response times. I really need to get back to work and check
out the model number on these screens
