nec dvd writer

i have a nec 1100 dvd re-writer and sometimes when i try to play a movie
on it, even a brand new new retail one, it freezes the whole pc so i
have to reboot. It doesnt seem to follow any pattern, just when it
feels like it. For instance, it wont play a new copy of Troy.

Well have you tried using the original dvd instead of a
copy, also consider repalcing it, if you just bought it
take it back, (get another one) or just get your money
back and get a different brand dvd re-write drive
