navigation pane views in Outlook 2003

I used to be able to view a monthly calendar in navigation pane above all
mail folders. I could easily click on any day in the monthly calendar and a
detailed weekly calendar would be displayed off to the right where my
detailed inbox was once displayed. All my mail folders and the monthly
calendar would remain in the naviagtion pane off to the left. When I wanted
to go back to my inbox, after viewing the detailed weekly calendar, I would
simply click on the inbox icon within the navigation pane and would be able
to view my email in my inbox off to the right of the navigation pane,
replaceing the weekly calendar view. Throughout switching views from inbox
to calendar day detail (off to right of navigation pane) the small monthly
calendar would remain visible above all mail folders in the navigation pane.

As far as I can tell, the Date Navigator (the little calendar above the
folder list) will not display unless the pane on the right is in a calendar
view. As soon as you display your Inbox, the Date Navigator will vanish.
