navigating folders causing error...

I am unable to navigate through "My Computer" or Windows Explorer. I receive
an error stating that Windows has encountered a problem and the program
(explorer.exe) needs to shut down. I have tried everything from disk check to
repairing the Windows install, but it still happens. All other operations
work fine and there have been no apparent slow downs on my comp.
 
Have you performed a thorough anti virus scan with a reputable product?

This behaviour is often caused by worm / virus activity.
