NAV - a real resource hog

Hi...I've been having some real slow response time and I think it's due
to Norton Anti-Virus. By looking at the Windows Task Manager /
Processes, NAVAPSVC.EXE has a very high amount of Usage - it's
typically between 50 - 75% of the CPU. And normally it's right around
60-65. Because of this, the System Idle Process is low, low, low.

Is this something that can be looked at and corrected, or at least
improved?

Thank you, DrB

It isn't something that can be looked at by anyone here. Symantec would have
to improve their buggy, bloated, resource-hungry programs and no one else.

Use something else. If you want further information or to read discussions
about it, just do a Google Groups Advanced Search for "Norton + problems"
in the MS newsgroups.

The improvment would be to remove NAV and install either Kaspersky or Nod32.
Not only do these two require far fewer resources, they also have better
detection rates.
It isn't easy to remove NAV; you need to carefully follow the instructions
on the Symantec website.

Thanks for the info. Ironically enough my subscription to NAV expires
tomorrow. I'll start looking into removing it and then looking into
either Kaspersky or Nod32.

Thanks.......DrB
