Hi all,

I have a file that I need to remove from my Downloaded Program Files folder
but the system will not allow me to do it as it say that windows is using the
file. the file in question is webdlg32.dll and it is used with webdlg32.inf
it is one of those nasty little search bars that attaches itself
to internet explorer add-ons. I was thinking perhaps I could delete it using
the cmd prompt what I don't know is the exact way to do this I thought that
del C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files\webdlg32.dll would have done this for
me but I get a message The system cannot find the file specified?

can anybody out there suggest a solution ?? PLEASE

regards
Sean

Some of this does not apply if you have Windows XP SP2.

First. Make sure of these settings and nothing will install without you
answering YES. (Except what may install as part of some other software.)
Don't click YES if you don't know/trust the source.

Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options | Advanced tab |
Make sure both of these are NOT checked.

Enable Install On Demand (Internet Explorer)
[[Specifies to automatically download and install Internet Explorer
components if a Web page needs them in order to display the page properly or
perform a particular task.]]

 Enable Install On Demand (Other)
[[Specifies to automatically download and install Web components if a Web
page needs them in order to display the page properly or perform a
particular task.]]

Apply | OK

 Enable Install On Demand (Other)
Is part of the driveby downloading of unwanted programs. i.e. Scumware or
whatever will install w/o you even being aware of it.

Second. If you need a scan right now.

Third.
It is known as scumware. Visit these sites. 1, 2, 3 and 4 are really good.
Download, install, run, update and run again; one or all. They are all
good, FREE utilities. Make sure you update every program, even if you
just downloaded it. You must have the latest updates. Without updates,
you have a gun without ammo. You also need to use more than one
anti scumware program. One program will *not* catch everything.

Can you locate the process running in Task Manager and kill it there? If
you stop the process, you should not get the 'In Use' error.

You should also probably make sure your AV software is up2date and run a
full scan.

Also, get some malware/adware application(s) like spybot and run those as
well.

I'm having the identical problem. If you were able to solve your's,
I'd sure appreciate knowing how you did it?

Sorry. I was referring to Seans November post which follows:

That is most likely spyware.
The link on my last post applies.

I've run every application on Jupter's list and I still have the file.
I believe the remedy is be to manually delete it, if I can find it.
Searches of my computer have failed.

Searches of my computer have failed.

I've run into a few instances where such files have been installed with
SYSTEM and HIDDEN attributes. I had to use a command prompt and the
ATTRIB command to find them, reset the attributes, and delete them.

Thanks. Can you tell me more specifically how to do this step by step?
