Who can tell me the rules in naming a file name or
machine name in windowsxp in detail? For example ,which
characters is valid and which is invalid?

Actually in naming files if you enter the wrong
characters it will tell you. Spacing is allowed and
length can be up to 255 characters I think. XP will
assign the .ext depending on what kind of document it
is.

Some programs cannot interpret long file names. The limit
for programs that do not support long file names is eight
characters. File names cannot contain the following
characters:
\ / : * ? " < > |.
