naming columns

I've created a new workbook for names and addresses etc. I want to change the letters "A-Z" on the top of each column (excel letters) to titles ex. Last Name ... I've read everything including Insert/Name/Create but when I type Last Name in there it says not correct or something. How do you change those silly things? If I start my column names in say A1, than when I enter my first name in A2 my list numbers are wrong--I don't want the first row with my column titles on row 1. Help please

There's no provision in XL for renaming column headers.

You can hide Row and column headers (Tools/Options/View), put "Last
Name" in B1 and numbers 1,2,3... in A2,A3,A4... and shade row 1 and
column A to look like headers.

Names in XL cannot have spaces in them.
