I recently had the problem of one of my domain controllers
being completely destroyed. I have another server up and
running in its place, but I cannot seem to remove the old
server from Active Directory. I tried the Microsoft
method for removing the DC and that got rid of some of
it. But when I try to add the DC to a Site in Sites and
services the DC isn't listed in the Entire Directory, but
the old server is. Any ideas?? Thanks

So when the domain controller failed you did a Metadata Cleanup
folling this article:

216498 HOW TO: Remove Data in Active Directory After an Unsuccessful
Domain
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=216498

This also means cleaning up references to the failed DC in Sites &
Services and DNS. After doing this and the changes replicate around
to all of your domain controllers, you should be able to dcpromo up
the new machine and it will place itself in Sites & Services. You
should never have to manually place a DC in there.
