Recently, when I reference my C drive (e.g., in My Computer) it no longer is
just the "C: drive" -- it has a long name with about 30 characters and
letters in it ending in C. Why the change? Everything else seems normal.

Start | Run <type in> CMD /K <enter>
<type in> LABEL
(and name it what you want)

:) as for the question google the new name of your drive.

Hi,

Right click the C: drive in Windows Explorer, choose properties. Change the
description on the General tab.
