MyWaySA Spyware?

G

Guest

Hope someone can help solve or explain the following problem.

I run WD and AVG daily, Spybot and Adaware on a weekly basis and Windows
Live Scan from time to time - these programs never identify any spyware.
Just tried Spyware Detector and it identified several MyWaySA items - one of
high risk. I uninstalled MyWay using the ann/remove facility but Spyware
Detector is still coming up with the same results - one MyWaySA spyware of
high risk and 9 associated worms of medium risk. Can anyone esplain why? Is
MyWaySA a threat ?

anti virus applications installed at the same time.

Do not run more than one real-time anti-virus scanning engine!
Ensure that the automatic update facility is engaged only for
the real-time scanning engine. Also, if you decide downloading one
of the above av applications disable the e-mail scanning function
during installation as it provides no additional protection.
In fact, most of experts believe that scanning incoming and outgoing
mail causes e-mail file corruption.

Hello

Thank you for your detailed reply. However- as Spyware Detector has been
delisted* I thought it would be safe to use. Do you think the findings I
mentioned are false positives?

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm#swdetect_note
*Note on Spyware Detector: Spyware Detector was listed on this page because
of concerns with false positives. Testing with the latest version of Spyware
Detector indicates that the problems with earlier versions have been
satisfactorily resolved. Thus, we can no longer consider Spyware Detector to
be "rogue/suspect" anti-spyware.

Hello again Kayman

Did your second reply cross with my second entry- repeated below. I will
remove Spyware Detector from my computer but wondered about the MyWaySA
findings.

Repeat of previous message:

Could be FP, but I would double check with other av applications as
recommended.

Sorry about the scrampled posts, I attempt to resend starting with
"WindowsDefender".

Here we go again :)

The effectiveness of an individual AV scanners can be wide-ranging and
oftentimes a
collection of AV scanners is best. There isn't one software that cleans and
immunizes you against everything.
That's why you need multiple products to do the job i.e. overlap their
coverage - one may catch what another may miss.
---
Be sure to keep the on-demand av scanner(s) (manually) updated on a daily
basis)
and perform a full scan weekly with alternate scanning engines.
---
For a more 'challenging' infection (viral malware...)

Download Art's KAVDOS.EXE - FREE (Abandon/CareWare)
http://home.epix.net/~artnpeg/
and/or
David's MULTI_AV - FREE (Donation/Charity/CareWare)
http://www.ik-cs.com/got-a-virus.htm or
MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe
Additional Instructions:
http://pcdid.com/Multi_AV.htm
---
After the software is downloaded and updated, it is suggested scanning
the system in Safe Mode.
---
How do you boot to Safe Mode?

By pressing/tabbing F8 (or F5 on some computers/keyboards) during re-boot.

Alternatively,
click onto Start==>Run, type "msconfig" (without quotation marks), click OK.
Then click onto BOOT.INI tab and 'check' /SAFEBOOT then OK and click
Restart.
To go back to Normal Mode, you must access the System Configuration utility
again and click the General tab then click/check the radio button 'Normal
Startup'
- load all device drivers and services'.

Alternatively,
provide
an application called "BootSafe" that simplifies the process of booting to
safe mode. You may access BootSafe from the Start Menu under the
SUPERAntiSpyware folder.

Another very good antimalware app is Superantispyware. There is a fee
version (on demand scanning only), the paid for version includes active
monitoring, similar to Windows defender:

Many thanks for this very useful info. I have run the SuperAntispyware Pro
and no threats were found on my computer. Very reassuring.
