Hello,

I would be grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction to solve a
problem I have had a couple of times on different computers, so I don't
think it is unique but I have
searched the Knowledge Base and not manage to find any solutions.

I am running Windows XP SP1 on an Athlon XP1800 512mb, Machine all working
perfectly ok, running Norton AV & Systemworks, Adware and Spybot reporting
no problems.
I have 3 CD & DVD Drives, and all the CD icons have disappeared in My
Computer, 2 rare unning off the IDE and the third running off a SCSI card, I
know it is a Windows related problem as I Have a Linux CD that does not
install (runs OS from CD) and as an experiment with the Linux running all
the CD's work perfect. I have tried the usual stuff like uninstalling in
Device Manager, and Rescanning and no matter what I do it keeps saying says
problem with hardware instalation and the yellow flags re-appear. I tried My
External USB enclosure and if I connect up a hard drive it sees it no
problem, but if I connect a different CD-Rom drive it finds it look like it
finds the drivers OK and then get the same message ie. problem with hardware
installation and another yellow flag.
Even if I put a CD or DVD in the drive that should autorun (or the sotfware
protection needs the disk to run,) it will start and make all the usual
noises like it is going to work but then stops and nothing shows.
Is there anything that can knock just all my CD's out like this?

Cheers Terry
Ps
I uninstalled Tweak Xp etc incase it was hiding them or something, but it
was not.
