Mysterious Reboot

When I attempt to do a complete computer virus scan
(Norton AntiVirus), Norton scans until it reaches
c:\windows\system32\wbem\stdprov.dll and then it
reboots. Every time! At first I thought it was a virus
scanner problem, but then I went to the folder
c:\windows\system32\wbem\ and tried to view the
properties of stdprov.dll. When I tried to view the
properties of stdprov.dll the computer froze. Even crtl-
alt-del didn't restart it. I performed a hard reset and
tried to view the file stdprov.dll. This time the
computer rebooted. Either the computer freezes or
reboots every time I try to view the file stdprov.dll.
What could the problem be and how can I fix it?

Right click on MY COMPUTER > Properties > Advanced >
Start up and Recovery > settings

Under SYSTEM FAILURE uncheck the box that says

AUTOMATICALLY RESTART

Then you will have a blue screen with information instead of the abrupt
restart.

Hope this helps.

And may I add...go to windows explorer, right click on your C drive and go
to properties, then the tools tab, error checking-> check now. Put
checkmarks in both boxes and it should say it cannot do it right now but
will do it on the next reboot. Press yes/ok then restart the computer.

When it restarts it will check out your hard drive...I am wondering if maybe
the hard drive has developed a bad sector and that file is contained on it
then crashes when it cannot read it.
