my XP won't start

Hello everybody... first off let me tell you that I've been using my
computer (with my windows) just fine for a couple of years...

One day i turn on the computer. everything went normally, but when the
windows loading bar was full the computer simply froze.
i waited for a while, but the results were still equal to zero. so i
decided to reset it... again, same story... computer starts fine, but
this time it stops to ask me whether i want to start it normally or in
safe mode, etc.. i clicked normally and it happened the same as the
first time...
3rd time i went for safe mode... some files were listed on my screen,
like u suppose it should be, but again, it froze in a few seconds...
the last file listed was

windows/system32/DRIVERs/amdagp.sys

i turned the computer off, because i didnt have time to dig into the
problem...
few days later the same thing happened. this time i tried all the safe
modes with same results (with the same file to be the last on the
list)

I don't know if this could affect my computer but, i've recently
instaled a firewire card connected to a "firepod" which is a sound
card outside of the computer... i loaded some drivers for that thing,
but it worked fine for like a week.

I would be pleased if someone would take his or her time and look into
my problem a bit... what could have gone wrong? how could I solve my
problem? I have original windows CD, but i don't want to just format
everything because i have some data on this computer i'd like to keep,
not just delete everything (pictures etc.)

I'm sorry for my bad english, i'm not a born english speaker, so
excuse me for that :)

Thanks in advice!

Best regards, Jernej
