I upgraded from ME to XP Pro about 5 months ago. Today I tried to change
one of the registered file types. When I accessed the appropriate dialog,
it kept looking for its registered file types for over a minute before I
canceled it. What do I need to change to help it find these? Thank you for
your help.

As your setup matures, so does your list of file types. On top of that, XP
is quite slow in populating the list. Give it some time to finish.

Thanks Sharon. When I waited it was not too much longer than a minute to
get a response. But a couple of months ago someone (I am almost sure it was
someone on this ng) told me something I could do to speed up the response
rate a great deal and it helped. Unfortunately, I have forgotten it.

You're welcome, Bob. I don't think I've ever seen anything except removing
extinct file extensions that linger on after a program is removed. I've
tried doing that and have never noticed much difference in how fast/slow
File Types fills in.
