Firstly, try a detect/repair of Office (have your media handy). Then you
might post any subsequent errors in an Office newsgroup - mentioning your
version & SP of Office, and also the event log errors (copy/paste w/event
id).

With Word & Excel problems I have sometimes found that cleaning temp
files, etc, if excessive, can be a big help.

Might try ccleaner.com for that.
