My Wireless Mouse Just Stopped Working

Hi,

I've been using MS wireless mouse (Notebook 3000) with no problem. But
after I installed the latest security definition (on 8/5/2006), my mouse
acted erratically for a bit then stopped working entirely. Device Manager
says there is no problem, and USB recognizes the device correctly when I pull
it out and plug it back in. But the pointer simply would not move. I
reinstalled the driver, with no effect.

What should I do? What went wrong?

In addition to Mike Hall's good advice to try the mouse on another system,
did you put in fresh batteries?

I have been using the MS wireless Elite desktop set for almost two weeks
now, and have not had to insert fresh batteries.. the box states a 6 month
life for this particular 'set'.. time will tell.. it works really quite
well, except for running FPS games..

I try to stay away from owning even more devices that require me to keep
track of and buy batteries. Since the Windows users here are The Gamer
Boys, I've never bothered with wireless for the reason you mention - they
just don't cut it for accuracy and speed in killing aliens. ;-)

Since the OP hasn't come back, I guess we'll never know what his issue was.
