my windows XP is automatically logging off!

Please help anyone?

After booting up and reaching the log on screen - when I
go into my user account it starts to log on and then it
logs back off immediately (leaving me stranded at the log
on screen). I've tried running in safe mode. in fact all
the options safe mode provides and nothing works. This
means that I can't get into any of my files. To make
matters worse I was never given a start up disk when I got
my PC.

D I have to reinstall windows or can I press a button on
the keyboard to bypass this auto logging off procedure?
Also, does anyone know why this has happened i.e. have I
got a virus?

Many thanks

Right click desktop > properties > Screensavers (tab), uncheck 'On resume,
display Welcome screen'.

Thanks Andre but how do I get to the desktop if I can't
get into the welcome screen? As soon as I log on, I am
immediately logged back off.

Have you recently removed spyware? This can be a by-product of that.
See this link:

If that doesn’t help see this:

You will need the windows installation CD. See if you can borrow one
from a friend who has a similar type of windows install, ie same type of
computer, OEM vs. retail. All you need is to be able to get into the
recovery console. It does not need to be installed.
