my systems won't talk to each other

S

see.cher

all systems are connected thru a router (some wireless).
Router has been reset to default.
Firewalls are off.
all systems can access inet.
all systems can ping one another
all systems have different identities.
all systems are in same workgroup
one system sees itself in the workgroup folder.
the other two see an empty workgroup folder.
I have been having issues with the registry on these two.
I believe all the services are set to default XP Pro SP2 startup start
values.
what else is there??????????

Check both computers for misconfigured / overlooked firewalls, and for the
restrictanonymous setting.
Misconfigured / overlooked firewalls:

Registry setting restrictanonymous:
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/07/restrictanonymous-and-your-server.html>

If no help, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer,
and we'll diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and
follow instructions precisely:

The browser is not a program related to Internet (web) surfing. Please read
this article:
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/04/nt-browser-or-why-cant-i-always-see.html>

What's the third party firewall?

How about ipconfig for the other computer? Let's look at that, even if it seems
to "lists the same thing (different addresses)".

Check for components and services on both computers:

laptop which shows netbios disabled (like desktop) shows;

I CAN'T GET IT TO THIS COMPUTER - no connection

- it is consistent with the address and the one that shows itself
apparently has netbios enabled because it does not show as disabled.

netbios over tcp/ip is enabled

I'm sorry that your computers don't allow you to share files thru the network,
if they did you wouldn't be here would you? But you need to supply the
complete, unedited contents of "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from both
computers, for us to continue most easily. Please read these articles, and
linked articles, to see how useful all of the information is.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/browstat-utility-from-microsoft.html>
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/reading-ipconfig-and-diagnosing.html>
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#AskingForHelp>

Or, if you like, read this article from the beginning. You have to solve all
lower level problems first, before you can solve higher level ones.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html>

And pay particular attention to these:
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/your-personal-firewall-can-either-help.html>
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html#Components>

I'll try to answer your questions, and give you alternatives, but I need you to
help me to help you. Don't ignore my instructions simply because they're too
hard for you to provide what I ask for. It's a lot easier in the long run, if
you try what I recommend.

Thanks, this is a good start.
# All 3 computers have connectivity with the router / DHCP server, and are
getting settings, subnet 192.168.123/24.
# All 3 computers have acceptable Node Type (all Unknown).
# No computer shows IPV6.
# Ruggb-8200 has elected itself the master browser, and sees only itself.
# Both Flying-Low and Ruggb-6210 show "NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . :
Disabled".

So start by checking components and services (get NBT enabled), then look for
misconfigured / overlooked firewalls, and check registry setting

if i knew how to get nbt enabled, i think i would have the problem
solved.

all the services are the same as the one that seems to be ok.
restrict... is the same as before
no firewalls running

i read someone else blog and he basically jumped right into installing
netbeui and not solving the problem.

do i have to reinstall xp to get this fixed????????

No, just read the articles, and links in them!

Getting NBT working will be just as easy as installing NetBEUI, you do have to
RTFM though. In this case RTFA.
