Somehow, my spreadsheet is too far up on the Excel screen and I cannot access
the close or minimize buttons.
 
Use Window | Arrange | Horizontal (or one of the others) to make the
window visible on screen.

Hope this helps.

Try going to Window | Arrange, and choose Tiled. It should bring it back
down so you can see those buttons.
