My speakers dont work?

Ok, my speakers don't work.
I have made sure that the volume is on, and the speakers are turned on.
I have made sure everything is not muted.
I've tried two sets of speakers.
Still no sound!
What do I do to fix this?

Have you considered the possibility that it's nothing whatsoever to do with
your speakers...? Hint - what do your speakers need in order to produce
sound - where are they hooked up to at the back of the system?

In addition to that very good response, it may be a good idea to go to
Control Panel and make sure that the particular sound card is chosen as the
operating device. This can be done by going to CP and then Sounds and Audio
Devices, on the Audio tab, make sure that your card is selected in the
dropdown menus.
