I was surfing the web the other day and at one point I
clicked on a link and my browser was hijacked to another
site. It took me a few seconds to realize what had
happened, and then I closed the window, at which point
others started popping up. I finally got them all closed,
and now my home page is changed to www.my-searcher.com.
I've changed my home page back, and even gone and
eliminated this from my registry, but every time I reboot
it comes back. PLEASE HELP!! This is driving me nuts.

Please note: I went to the website you directed me to,
but it is not the same as what I have. I went to the
add/remove programs and the "My Search" toolbar or any of
the variations listed are not on my machine.

One other thing of note that this particular parasite
does, I found that it has added things to my "Favorites"
list that cannot be deleted peramanently. Obviously, this
is most frustrating. The exact website address that keeps
getting posted is: http://my-searcher.com/index.htm

Thanks for your help with this problem

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines

especially

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.
If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

I've been to that website, and already had Ad-aware
installed on my system. It does not seem to pick this
up. In addition, I've added "Spyware Begone 3.35" to try
and tackle this problem, and it doesn't seem to recognize
it either. I will try some of the other sites you've
listed to see if they are of any help.

Go to: http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware]

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, go to the "Spyware and Hijackware Removal" section.
Press "New Topic", copy and paste hijackthis.log into your new message.
