My reminders in Outlook 2000 are hung up

I've had Outlook 2000 for several years. I allowed my reminders to build up
to about 60... the other day when I started Outlook, only a few reminders
appeared and then the program froze forcing me to shut down the program.
Several attempts later I got a message that the program was unable to shut
off the reminders. An attempt to use scanpst resulted in a message that it
was unable to do so as a program had control.... I'm assuming whatever part
of the Outlook program controls the reminders... I'm not able to do anything
within my Outlook program, any attempt to access any other area results in
the entire program becoming unresponsive. I'm unable to copy the pst file, it
tells me another program has control... again assuming it is the reminder...
An attempt to use my program cd and perform a repair didn't fix this problem.
Is there a work-around on this? I have a lot of emails in my inbox that I
really don't want to lose.

HI,
have you already tried to start outlook with the parameter
/cleanreminder?

yes, after browsing this area and seeing that as a possible solution. however
it still doesn't allow me access to the program, it still becomes
unresponsive. I was able to copy the 'outlook pst' folder to another spot on
my hard drive, I think at this point my only alternative is to uninstall and
reinstall the program.
