My recipients are getting . dat files instead of .pdf

I am sending .pdf files and most of my recipients are receiving them as .dat
files. I have tried changing email address to send plain text but still no
joy
 
Is the actual email being sent in plain text though? Usually the issue is in
sending rich text with an attachment to a recipient who doesn't use Outlook,
since rich text format is specific to Outlook. Check in your sent items to be
sure.
