My Pictures folder very slow

When I try to open the my pictures folder, there is a very long delay before
the filed opens. Also, when I go into one of the folders I have set up within
my pictures, if I need to go back to a previous folder it takes just as long.
It is extremely frustrating to have to wait so long. I have plenty of room
on my hard drive so I don't think that is the problem. Any ideas? Thanks!

They are all thumbnails, does that make it take longer to open? Also, how
would I know if there are corrupted files?

If you change the view to something other that thumbnails, does that
correct it? Usually a corrupted file will cause the window to close, but
are any of the thumbnails missing or black? How many files are in there?
Tens, Hundreds, Thousands? The more there are the longer it will take.
