My pc doesn't shut down

WindowsXP Home

It used to immediately log off when it shuts down but it just stalls on the
"windows is logging off". I updated Windows and am running SP2.

...ran anti-spyware, anti-virus

Any ideas?
 
Hi,

Before shutting down, hit ctrl+shift+escape and kill a few of the process.
Try again, see if it helps. If not, try again, this time killing more of
them. Repeat until you can tell which process it is that is hanging, then
post back with that information.

Rundll32.exe errors at shutdown are usually caused by spyware.
Scan your system with latest versons of:-

Spybot,Search and Destroy:-http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder:-http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html
Adaware:-http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
Run all these in Safe mode.

Online virus scanner:-
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Also see:-
"What's the suspicious Rundll32.exe process?"
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/rundll32.htm

It gets stuck at "rundll32.exe" and then starts the meter-scale thingy.

I used AdWare and Spybot and these didn't help..glad you gave me the link to
TrendMicro that is a good one. Thanks again ..I'll keep ya posted!
