My Paint

1. Go to Control Panel, double click Add or Remove Programs. On the left
side of the Window you'll see a big button: Add/Remove Windows Components,
click it. When the Windows Components Wizard opens Accessories and
Utilities should be highlighted and have a check mark to the left of it.
Click the Details button. When the Accessories and Utilities window opens
Accessories should be highlighted with a check mark to the left of it.
Click the Details button. When the Accessories window opens scroll down to
Paint. If there isn't a check mark to the left of it, click the box to put
a check mark, then click the OK button, and click the OK button on the
Accessories and Utilities window, and then click the Next button on the
remaining window to continue and finish the wizard. Reboot and Paint should
function.

2. BUT, if you discover that there IS a check mark to the left of Paint,
click to REMOVE the check mark, then go through the rest of the wizard as
described above. Then after rebooting, go back to the wizard, and click to
put the check mark back in the box to the left of Paint. Finish the wizard
as described above, and reboot, and Paint should function. I once installed
a program that killed Paint, and had to do the this second method, which
essentially is uninstalling and then reinstalling Paint.

Hi Jessica,

This fix usually works:

Start/run regedit, navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Applets\Paint

Hightlight (click on it) that key and delete it. Close the registry editor
and reopen Paint.
