My OUTLOOK Pro XP locks up when trying to open either large e-mails or
attachments. I can have the same e-mail sent to OUTLOOK Express and there is
no problem. I have Nortons internet and virus security installed, but feels
it is not relted to them. Please help it is making my OUTLOOK Pro relatively
useless. This version is not controlled by a Network where an administrator
controls.

I would guess otherwise, if you are using Norton to scan your incoming mail.
Norton doesn't seem to play well with Outlook, judging from the many other
similar reports in this forum.

I checked and Nortons e-mail is turned off and not active. A good thought but
one I tried upon recieving your response and previousily. Any other thoughts.

What's the size of your PST? How many items are in the most populated
folder?

Well, that's not the issue, then.

A stab in the dark, but perhaps the problem is with the Outlook Secure Temp
Folder. Try emptying that. Close Outlook and open a command prompt window
and enter:

cd %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
dir /a

L:blush:ok for a folder starting with OLK. Let's say you find one called OLK25E.
Delete the folder with the fomand

rmdir /q /s OLK25E

Exit the command prompt window and restart Outlook. Try opening the
attachment.
