Are these backup files or do I have settings that are allowing outlook to
auto delete after a certain amount of time...I do not understand what is
happening--Ihave files in recycle bin, but I can go into outlook and the
files are not deleted--at least not completely...the dates on the deleted
files are not same as exidting files...for instance, 'file A' in recycle bin
will have a date like 12/16/2008--and be a pretty large file--too big to be a
single contact bus card or a single email--large enough to be a complete file
of the contact...but when i go into outlook 2007 it appears as if 'file A' is
there, but there is nothing in the file with a date of 12/16/2008...all of
the files in the recycle bin have .bak in them and are from outlook 2007...

No they're not - they are from Outlook EXPRESS. When Outlook EXPRESS does a
compact folders, it places a copy of each mail folder (with a .bak
extension) into the recycle bin.

This newsgroup is for support of Outlook
97/98/2000/2002/2003/2007 from the Office suite of products. Outlook
Express is actually a separate program despite the similar name.

For help with your OE questions, try an OE newsgroup such as
microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general (for OE 6), or
an OE help website such as http://insideOE.tomsterdam.com. If you're
accessing the Microsoft newsgroups through the MS Product Support
Services "Community Newsgroups" web interface, click
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...px?dg=microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general
Good luck!

Outlook does not place any files in the windows recycle bin, nor does it
create .bak files.
If however you have a third party addin these may do so

Selecting the file in the recycle bin should show where it was previously
stored, or came from

They are Outlook Express dbx files which were created when your Outlook Express
compacted. You can safely delete them. It was done as a backup when compacting would
mess up the Outlook Express dbx files
