My old disc structure ?

After using the restore function of my new pc a few times I now find that
about 2/3 of the used space on the disc is taken up by "My old disc
structure" (even including My old My old disc structure, LOL). I take it
that was done by the restore as a kind of backup. The pc works great now,
and I'd like to remove all those old disc things, is there any danger in
that ?

Exactly what restore function are you referring to?

Is "My old disc structure" the name of the folder where these files
are located?

Check add/remove programs for an option to remove these files.

I was afraid that someone would ask that kind of question
I bought this pc with a sector on the c drive that works as a restore cd,
and you can choose 3 ways of restoring, the kind where everything
disappears, and 2 ways where you keep a lot of your data. I've used the
total restore and one of the others, and doing that seems to make that My
old disc structure folder, which contains (as far as I can see) all folders
that were on my drive at the moment I restored. So doing it more than once
does that again, and the folder starts to look like those russian puppets
that fit inside each other, and gets larger and larger with each restore. I
have no idea if this is an XP thing, or a special feature of the pc I
bought, and the pc is not one of the common pc's like Dell or whatever, but
is specially made for the chain of stores where I bought it.
It's not in the add/remove programs, and the folder is located directly on
the C drive, and is now almost 12 GB(!) and marked read only..........

Hi Nanny,

This must be an application installed by the manufacturer.
What is the name of the application? When you open it, go to Help and
About.
Did you receive a restore CD with the system?
Check with the manufacturer for instructions on how to use the
application and if there are any setting that can be changed in it to
reduce the size of the backup.

I don't know the name of the application, as I still haven't been able to
find it, but I looked in that old disk structure folder, and it contained
everything that's now in my current version, so I take it that it won't harm
anything if I remove it. And I can always restore again ;-))) I'm lucky, I
have all my data on a second drive.
When I'm near the store where I bought it I'll ask them about reducing the
size of the backup.

So you are saying each restore creates a backup with overwriting the
old ones.

I would be interested in learning more about this program and how it
works.

I suspect the restore program is on a hidden partition. I can't find
anything, and the total disk space according to my pc is 109,1 and I thought
it was 120........
