When I access an network location via mY network places and I try save a file
I get a read-only error. If i access the same folder via my computer, I can

Tony,

When you access My Computer, you're accessing local and mapped network drives,
catalogued by your computer. When you're accessing My Network Places, you're
accessing shared folders, catalogued by the master browser. Are the folders in
question local to your computer?

It's possible that you have a misconfigured or overlooked personal firewall, or
other security component.

You might look at "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each computer, and
diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely (download browstat!):

You also might want to read about Security (local permissions) vs Sharing
(network permissions).
