My network places

I added a network place several months ago and has been working fine until
recently. Since about three weeks ago, it really slowed down. When I double
click on the icon or right click, it takes minutes to get a response and
sometimes not at all. The problem seems to be with my XP machine, because I
can add the same network place to my Win98 machine and it is very fast,
responding within seconds, and never hangs up. I also have norton internet
securinty on the XP machine and I have disabled it and it still hangs up.
What's wrong?

Right-click and delete the network place, then click "Add a network
place" and create a new copy of it.

I tried deleting and re-establishing the network connection and it didn't
help. I did notice that in the My Network Places window, that the network
place is under a label that says, Unspecified. I don't know what that means.
Also the following information may help.

1) The network place works fine on my other computer, a windows 98 machine.
It's very fast and never crashes.
3) If I use internet explorer browser, the network place works fine and
never crashes. It only hangs when I click on the ICON in the My Network
Places window, which I added by using the Add Network Place wizard.

If you know how to do it, remove your network adapter and restart the machine
so it reinstalls the adapter (have the drivers handy if necessary). You may
have to reconfigure the adapter settings and network place afterward. I have
had a slow network connect a few times and removing the adapter seems to
correct the problem.

Good Luck,

HJ
