My Network Places

When opening My Network Places, all the shared folders are displayed. I
recently reorganized my shared folders on one of my machines. Most of the
network connections were now invalid on my second machine, so I deleted
them. I know I can manually "Add a Network place" for each shared folder,
but how can this be done automatically? Isn't there a method to add shared
folders for all machines?

It sounds like you want to map the folders as drives? That's what I do
for folders/drive sharing.

Click Tools | Folder Options | View, and make sure that "Automatically
search for network folders and printers" is checked.

process to look for shared folders? I already tried unchecking and
rechecking the box.

You're welcome. Network browsing in Windows XP is often unreliable,
so manually adding your own network places might be required. It's
also possible that you might have to wait several minutes/hours/days
for it to work.

Are any relevant messages in Event Viewer? To run it, click Start |
Control Panel | Performance and Maintenance | Administrative Tools |

Examined Events and no relevant messages. All Warning and other failures
are explainable. Nothing pertaining to networking or file sharing. Isn't
there a way to force to find all shared folders?

You're welcome.

In my experience, network browsing in Windows XP is often unreliable,
and trying to make it work can be more trouble than it's worth. You
might have to add the desired network places manually.

Another possibility is to forget about My Network Places completely.
To access shares on another computer, type the other computer's name
in the Start | Run box in this format:

\\computer
