"My Network Places" question

After loading XP Pro, I checked to see if the other -2- computers that
are on my home network were found. Well, they were but I have
a question as to how they show up under "My Network Places"

One computer is assigned to the "Local Network" section and the other
is assigned to "The Internet" section . All computers have the same
workgroup name. Each computer can PING the other computers. The
computers are hooked up as follows:

#1 Win98SE
#2 Win98
#3 WinXP Pro

Router: WAN port to cable modem
(4 port) LAN port to #1
UpLink port to 10/100 Switch

10/100 Switch: #2 & #3
(5 port)

Have tried switching the cables from each of the computers to different
ports either on the router or the switch. No change.

Is there a logical explanation as to why they don't all show up under the
"Local Network" heading ???

thanks
ray

I have a similar problem. All my network drives are visible and accessible by
drilling down through View Workgroup, but some of them do not show up in My
Network Places. I have posted this here but like you I haven't seen a
solution.

(1) At the command prompt, I typed: net use
It looked like nothing happened.
(2) In Explorer/Tools I selected Disconnect Network Drive and the result
was something like "There are no disconnected drives."

I went back to My Network Places, and all my drives were visible. I don't
know if this was as a result of (1) or (2).

Neither, you're totally clueless.
