My Mouse won't turn on when computer comes out of rest mode in Windows XP

I have a new Dell computer, Optiplex 210L, Windows XP system, 4 days
old. First I was using an optical mouse (gateway) with it. WHen the
computer went into a resting mode - particularly if it was "asleep" all
night the mouse wouldn't come back. I had to shut down and restart.
I have a USB port and the mouse is compatible with the computer.

Then Day 2 I got my ITAC Mouse-Trak trackball, also for a USB port.
This mouse would come back just fine after being in a resting mode for
several hours or over night, for about 2 days.
However, Day 4, I left my computer for less than 1.5 hours and the ITAC
mouse wouldn't come back on. I had to shut down. This time I had
closed out of all my applications, and just had left the computer on.

I have no problems with my Maxim Kinesis keyboard, which needs a PS to
USB adaptor. It always comes back.

THe computer is set to go to sleep after being dormant for an hour.

Any ideas here? With a brand new computer, one would pray this would
work.

ANd it's my 2nd computer from Dell in 3 months. The first Optiplex had
a lot of software glitches and they are taking it back.

Thanks.

Thats usually a driver 'issue'

Which indicates a USB driver problem.

What have you done about drivers for the USB trackball and mouse ?

Yes, you shouldnt be getting that effect.

Looks like you've got another software glitch.

Lousy news, I know.

I have a new Dell computer,

I've seen that plenty with the Dell mouse. Toss it.
I sent maybe 10 of them back under warranty, but
I finally gave up and just bought a bunch of Microsoft
mouses. End of problem.

Well, the system seems to have a problem with USB mice for some odd reason.
If that is the only problem, I would try one of the following:
1) Set power management settings so that the computer never sleeps
2) Buy a PS/2 mouse

Hmm .. reading closer .. I fixed the disappearing
mouse with Microsoft mouse. Fluke? Or just luck?
I mean I had 10 dead ones too, but the problem
on those 10 computers has not returned ??????
Maybe something like the USB connector on
those 10 computers is oversize ??? Darned if
I know, but the MS mouse worked. I think it is
a physical problem at the USB port, because
I used a disk image to install the OS on 41
Dells .. so it wasn't the software.

Never seen that produce those symptoms either.

Like I said, most likely a driver issue. The driver
likes the MS mouse better basically so you dont
see a problem when returning from standby.

I dont, that doesnt produce that particular symptom.

It could well be, the driver doesnt like the Dell mouse but
is happy with the MS mouse when coming out of standby.
