My mistake... Noisy PSU not CPU

D

Dave

I tried replacing the £15 psu that I had with a "low noise" £45 psu but it's
still very loud. I compared it to another computer in the house which is a
complete computer bought from pc world and it is virualy silent compared to
mine. Are there any really quiet psu's available that are as quiet as
"factory fitted" ones... the noise is driving me mad

Please help

Factory PSU are notoriously underpowered. They supply just enough for what
is delivered with the system, usually one hard drive and one CD/DVD drive.
Add 1 or 2 fans and it still isn't much. The PSU doesn't have to supply much
power, doesn't heat up much, the cooling fan runs very slow and doesn't move
much air.

Many/most add on PSU's supply much more power and need better cooling -
hence, more noise.
