My mic only won't work on this computer.

I bought a headset mic from radioshack. I plugged it in my computer. It
didn't work. So brought it back. The associate checked it for me and I
saw that it worked. I went home plugged it back in and it didn't work.
What should I do?
 
are you sure the volume control for the mike is turned up
and not muted. this is on the recording side of the sound monitor as opposed
to the playback mode.

are you plugged into the right jack in the sound card.
