Hello

I type New Posts and post them in windowsxp help and support and windows xp
general.

But they never arrive in those newsgroups. I send "test" post in windowsxp
general and it is received. What could be wrong. Thank you.

Regards
Hash

Nothing. You posted. Now ask your question(s).

how can i select show replies to my messages when my original message is not
even listed in the newsgroup. Has it disappeared in thin air or has someone
deliberately tried not to post it after it left my pc.

They are in general..

For example.. You posted this at 9:00AM (in the general newsgroup)..
Hello

I use xpsp2 home.

The system restore does not seem to be working. I go back a day
and select system checkpoint and click next.

It does all it has to do and after booting comes up with the message
something like this "system restore cannot be done because there
have been no chnages to your
computer". I go 2 days back and same message so I go back 5 days
and still the same message. Any fixes please. Thank you.

This at 10:03AM (in the general newsgroup)..

And this at 10:19AM (in the general newsgroup)..

Hello Hash
I think you are correct despite what S.S. says.
Re the three posts as mentioned by Shenan
1. (12.03.2006 @ 0900hrs)
I cannot see this post in General - I can see it in the General 'Find' but
timed @ 1500hrs
2. Test - yes I can see it in general but timed @ 1603hrs and not timed at
1003hrs as suggested
3. (12.03.2006 @ 10.03hrs)
I cannot see this post in General - I can see it in the General 'Find' but
timed @ 1619hrs
N.B. ALL THE TIMES ARE 6HRS IN DIFFERENCE??????
I have also had messages take over 5 hrs to appear, and some never have -
not even in the 'find'
Is there an explanation Shenan?

P.S.
I have been away this weekend, and on a closer look at this newsgroup, I
have 4 messages for 10.03.2006 and nothing between 1950hrs 11.03.2006 -
0205hrs 12.03.2006. Has it been that quiet!

Do you connect directly to the MS newsgroups?
What timezone are you in?

Sorry - not sure what you are asking.
Connect directly - time zone.
All times on the east side of the 'pond' are GMT in these newsgroups. This
last message of yours appears as 1937hrs.
So if you are to the west of the 'pond' you should be at least 4 - 6 hrs
behind.
I use O.E. to read newsgroups.
This still does not explain the non-appearance of Hash's messages or does
it??

Yes you are right Antioch. My messages have disappeared in thin air.

I sent a few to the xp help and support group and a few to the general
newsgroup. All on same subject re: system restore. How can one write to
the moderator or the administrator of msnews.microsoft.com. Is there an
email address to contact her/him Shenan ?

I have always relied on ms newsgroups for answers to my pc's technical
problems and I always get positive and helpful answers. Thank you.

Hash

All your posts show up fine here. Now I understand why you made so many
multiple posts, though. And here I thought you were just being
irritating. ;-)

There isn't any moderator, but I don't think writing to them is useful
since quite a few of us who live all over the world have no problem
seeing your many posts.

First, make sure you are using the MS news server and not getting the
groups from your ISP's NNTP server. msnews.microsoft.com is the one I
use.

Second, review your Outlook Express settings. I don't use OE so I can't
help you, but I'm sure it has some sort of filtering capability and you
may have it set to either not download enough messages/headers or are
filtering messages in some other way that isn't correct. For instance,
I have my newsreader set to filter on "Threads with unread". Here are
some links about setting up OE to use as a newsreader, as well as some
links to other newsreaders for Windows:

Newsreader

http://xnews.newsguy.com/

Also, remember that Usenet posts are propagated to servers all over the
world. Normally, you would see posts you made right away though and
that makes me think that you've got something set wrong in OE.

Thank you for the reply malke.

I use outlook 2003 sp2 to read the newsgroup posts. i am using ms news
server msnews.microsoft.com. I've setup the msnews through nntp server
where i typed msnews.microsoft.com in the NEWS (NNTP) Server field.

How does filtering work in outlook 2003 newsgroups? Thank you.

Outlook doesn't read news. Instead, it calls Outlook Express. And here,
from your headers, is what you are using:

Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2670

So even though you don't use OE for reading mail, open it and configure
it according to the links I gave you. Or try one of the many other
newsreaders for Windows.

Sorry, but you are not using Outlook 2003 or any other version of
Outlook, you're using Outlook Express - and in My Opinion, the worst
Usenet client on the planet.

Try any of the following real Usenet clients:

Super Gravity (Free)

And even Thunderbird does a better job than OE:

Hi Hash,

From the menu, View > Current View > ..... There you can choose "Show
Replies to my Messages", or any other view you like. You can also create
custom views for yourself with the "Define Views" choice.

Also check your download settings: Tools > Options > General > Check for new
messages every X minutes. Also, Tools > Options > Read > News > Get X
messages at a time. These are busy groups and you may not have downloaded
all the messages. You can always use the Tools > Get New Headers to get
more.
