when I click on my windows mail to open it up all I get is a blank box
showing that it is windows mail but I cannot see any of my folders or any
mail. has this happened to anyone else? if so how the heck do you fix it? I
had windows live mail beta but recently uninstalled that because it wasn't
working right either. can someone help me. I keep having this problem even
after restarting the computer. sometimes it will work for a few hours and
then it just goes back to the blank box. HELP ME!!!

Make sure you are not using incompatible third party security
software. Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
or Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

Shortcake: This just started happening to me! I get a 'frame' for the box
that I can see through! Then if I click on something - anything - it turns
black and stays that way. This happens after about two hours of being in
email, reading and replying. So far it is okay if I reboot. I read Gary
VanderMolen's reply and now I'm sure it's the McAfee that needs to be
uninstalled. I'm glad I'm not crazy - I searched for awhile before I saw your
post and read Gary's reply. Thanks!

Thank you Gary. I will uninstall my McAfee. My question- what anti virus do
you recommend?
S.B,

Read what I wrote below in my original response.
In my opinion, the free Avast antivirus is good enough.
Of the paid ones, Nod32 and Kaspersky are best.
