My laptop does not shutdown

When I tried to shutdown by laptop, the following event is registered in the
System Log:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: USER32
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1073
Date: 5/7/2006
Time: 14:35:09
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: IBM-CFELIPE
Description:
The attempt to power off IBM-CFELIPE failed

0000: 00 00 00 00 ....

When I try once more, I can shutdown.
Does anybody know how can I solve it?
Just FYI... The system restore is turned off.

First, do not turn off your System Restore, it is your primary "lifeline".
