my keyboard is haunted

After working fine for a couple years, my keyboard suddenly developed a
bizarre problem. Repeat Delay and Repeat Rate keep getting reset to the
shortest and fastest values.

It's strange, but the controls for those settings in the Keyboard control
panel do not reflect the actual settings. For instance, Repeat delay will
appear to be set to Long when it's actually Short. If I change it, then
change it back to Long, it works fine again, for a while. Then something
changes it back.

Should I consult a keyboard exorcist? Ghostbusters?

You should consider trying another keyboard maybe... but also the
possibility of something (Trojan maybe) hooking into your keyboard input and
recording keystrokes.

Have you checked for spyware and things recently? Did you download and
install anything around the time this all started?

Yes, I do regular scans. Also, there are no other symptoms of infection.

The keyboard is acting great otherwise. I don't think it's a hardware
problem.
