my increase/decrease indent buttons are not responding Help!

I'm trying to move my bullet (dot) and text over and the increase/decrease
buttons do not move? What am I doing wrong :-(
 
The position of the bullets is governed by the "ruler" (and the tabs on the
ruler) and the "text box alignment"

not the increase/decrease buttons. They only control the size of your text

As TAJ says ....

so you need to VIEW > RULER and adjust the sliders with the text box
selected.
