My IE6 won't stay unless I delete cookies

I posted this almost a month ago. I cannot believe that no one else has
this problem. I do not want to give up and use Mozilla, but I may have no
choice. I will try re-installing IE6, but don't expect a miracle.

I followed everyone's advice and downloaded and ran 4 or 5 programs -
nothing helped. I passed the log to the Spywareinfo Malware forum, provided
a requested 2nd one, then was ignored.

Subject: My IE6 won't stay unless I delete cookies

Frequently when I attempt to start IE6 on my Win XP Pro (no SP2 yet) Sony
Vaio laptop, it starts, then disappears before the home page or the "linked
to" page appears. If I then unplug my network cable and try again, IE6
stays, waiting to time out, after which time I can use "tools, internet
options, delete cookies". Then when I plug the network cable back in, IE6
works. So something on my computer creates some cookie frequently. I use
eTrust anti-virus, updated every day. I use ZoneAlarm. I update Windows
frequently. I'm behind a LinkSys router. This has been occurring for over
a week, so someone must have a solution by now. TIA, Paul

Thanks, Sandy. I should have mentioned that Outlook Express continues to
run even when IE6 shuts down while sitting idle for 15 or 20 minutes or
more, and then cannot be started (see specific odd symptoms described
below). I can either unplug the Ethernet cable or disable the 100.0 Mbps
connection, then delete the cookies, then re-plug the Ethernet cable or
enable the connection. So the suggestions about bad hardware, bad driver,
overheating, etc. seem to not apply. Deleting the cookies would not cure
them, and my Outlook Express would also be affected. Any other things to
try? TIA, Paul

Paul,

I've seen problems with OE caused by old version of antivirus programs such
as McAfee. Do you have your antivirus programme set to automatically scan
emails, and scan web surfing? If so, disable those specific options;
resident protection is sufficient. I should point out, though, that OE is
not automatically shut down when IE is shut down.

I am worried about malware/virus infestation. Try posting your log to
