My fan doesnt stay on

When i start my new vaio sony computer, my fan goes on for a brief moment, up
until Xp fully starts, and then the fan just goes off by itself.. Then when i
start things like paint and other programs, the same thing happens. I never
noticed before, but is the fan supposed to stay on, or does it go on and off?

i believe there is only one fan on the sony vaio laptop, the fj series, but i
never observed the behavior of the fan before so i dont know if there is a
problem. It seems to spit out air when i turn on a program...otherwise, it
stays off. i just want to know if this is a problem.

The fans are often controlled by circuitry that monitors the heat. When
you do things that make the processor work more, it uses more power, heats
up, and the fan comes on. When the temperature drops, the fan shuts off.
This feature is both for power management and noise reduction.
